While working with Samaritan’s Purse, last year, Michael was asked to redesign their Haiti staff t-shirt. Taking time to speak with Haitian colleagues and other locals to ascertain what meant the most to them, what message they’d like to be portrayed through the t-shirt, it was clear that many people wanted to change the perception that outsiders have of Haiti – one of corruption and poverty. Instead, they wanted people to know that there is actually much more to Haiti, that it, along with it’s people, is such a wonderfully beautiful place. ‘Bèl Ayiti’ simple means: Beautiful Haiti. If you ever get a chance to go to Haiti – you’ll understand better the power and sense of pride these 2 words hold to Haitians. The main artwork is a reworking of the coat of arms from the national flag.
